Every so often, you hear something that reframes the way you see your own experiences. A few weeks ago, I was in a conversation where someone drew a line between what’s permanent in life and what’s transitory—and how often we get the two confused.
That idea stuck with me. Because it’s true: In the middle of a difficult season—whether personal or professional—it can feel like the challenge is never-ending. We brace ourselves. We isolate. We “hunker down,” thinking strength is about endurance and independence.
But resilience isn’t about white-knuckling your way through hardship alone. It’s about recognizing that not everything hard will last forever. And more importantly, it’s about knowing when to reach out—to ask for help, to accept support, to lean on the strength of others when your own feels like it’s running low.
In work and in life, we often celebrate the individual who “toughed it out.” But I’ve come to believe the real power lies in interdependence. In trusting your team. In letting people show up for you when you need it.
We build resilience not by pretending we’re invulnerable, but by allowing others to help us bend without breaking.
So the next time you’re facing something that feels unmovable, ask yourself: is this permanent—or just a moment passing through? And more importantly, who can you reach for instead of retreating inward?
Because resilience isn’t a solo act. It’s a team effort.
